Covent Garden is one of the hardest places in London to leave with luggage. The piazza and many surrounding streets are pedestrianised, the nearest Tube station is notorious for its lifts and stairs, and the Gatwick trains go from Victoria or London Bridge, not from anywhere nearby. A pre-booked car meets you on a nearby street and takes you straight to the airport. Our booker puts the trip at about 40 miles, with a route time of around 85 minutes from WC2.

Picking You Up in a Pedestrian Area
Cars can’t stop on the piazza or many of the lanes around it, and some streets have timed access restrictions. When you book, give us your hotel or address and we’ll agree a pickup point the driver can legally reach, usually the hotel’s own entrance if it has vehicle access, or the nearest street that does. Put any instructions from your hotel concierge in the booking notes. The driver will text or call when they arrive, and the first 5 minutes of waiting are free.
Theatre District Hotels
A large share of our Covent Garden bookings are visitors staying in the West End’s hotels, flying home after a few days of shows and sightseeing. If you check out early and want to drop bags before a final afternoon, you can book the airport run for later in the day and collect your luggage from the hotel on the way. Put the timing in the notes and we’ll fix the pickup around it.
Why Not the Train?
There’s no direct train from Covent Garden. You’d take the Tube or a taxi to Victoria for the Gatwick Express or Southern services, or to London Bridge for Thameslink. With two big cases that’s the hard part, not the train itself. Covent Garden station is known for its long climb and lift queues, and Victoria’s concourse is crowded. Door to terminal by car takes the luggage out of the equation.
Route and Timing
From the West End, drivers cross the river at Westminster, Lambeth or Vauxhall and head south on the A23 through Brixton, Streatham and Croydon to the M23 and the airport. The booker estimates about 85 minutes, the slowest of our central London routes because of how long it takes to clear central and south London. Early-morning trips are much quicker. For daytime flights we’d suggest leaving at least three and a half hours before departure.
Business Travel From WC2
Covent Garden and Holborn have a lot of law firms, agencies and media offices whose staff fly from Gatwick. Executive cars are available, and companies can set up a corporate account for repeat bookings with monthly invoicing. Drivers can collect from your office reception.
Arriving at Gatwick and Coming Back
For the return, give us your inbound flight number. We track the flight, the driver meets you inside arrivals with a name board, and you have an hour of free waiting after landing. If you’re arriving in London for the first time and staying in Covent Garden, the driver will take you to the hotel or the nearest vehicle-accessible point.
Vehicle Choice
A saloon takes two large cases. An estate takes four. If you’re a group of friends after a theatre weekend or a family with lots of shopping, the MPV and 8 seater are the same price on this route. Child seats are available at £10 each.
