Which side of the park are you on?

Hyde Park is big, and where you start makes a difference of a few minutes and a pound or two. The east side, Park Lane and Marble Arch, is closest to the routes south over Vauxhall Bridge. The north side, along Bayswater Road and Lancaster Gate, is a little further. Knightsbridge on the south side is well placed for Chelsea Bridge and the A3. The table above uses Hyde Park Corner as the starting point; type your exact address into the booker for the precise fare.

The Park Lane hotels

Park Lane is lined with large hotels whose guests often fly from Gatwick, and the road itself is a busy dual carriageway with strict stopping rules. Most hotels have a forecourt or a service road where cars can pull in safely, and that is where the driver meets you. Give us the hotel name and your room name for the booking; the concierge will usually let you know when the car arrives.

For private flats in Mayfair behind Park Lane, give the full address and any instructions about the front door or porter.

Events in the park and how they affect traffic

Hyde Park hosts large events through the year. Summer concerts bring tens of thousands of people to the park, and Winter Wonderland runs from late November into the new year. On those days Park Lane, Knightsbridge and the roads around Marble Arch are busier than usual, especially in the evening. If your pickup falls on a big event day, we may suggest a slightly earlier time and a meeting point away from the crowds.

Route and journey time

The usual route goes round Hyde Park Corner, through Belgravia or Victoria, over the river and south on the A23 towards the M23. It is roughly 38 miles. Midday on a weekday it takes 77 minutes or so. Leaving before 7am, it is quicker. At the evening rush the A23 through Brixton can be slow, and drivers then often go via the A3 and the M25 instead. The fare does not change with the route.

Taxi or the Gatwick Express from Victoria?

From Hyde Park you would first need to reach Victoria for the Gatwick Express or Southern trains, either by cab or on the Underground with your cases. Then there is the walk through the station, the train itself and the walk from the Gatwick platform to check-in. For a solo traveller with hand luggage, the train is cheaper. For two or more, especially with suitcases, a car door to door is calmer, and four people sharing a saloon pay about £24.04 each.

Marble Arch, Bayswater and Lancaster Gate

The north side of the park is full of mid-sized hotels, serviced apartments and short-let flats, many in tall white terraces that look alike from the road. Please give the house number as well as the street, and the name of the building if it has one. Bayswater Road has bus lanes and limited stopping, so the driver will often turn into the side street next to your building and call you. From Marble Arch, the run to Gatwick starts down Park Lane, so it takes only a few minutes longer than from Hyde Park Corner.

Business trips from Mayfair offices

Mayfair, just east of Park Lane, has many investment firms and private offices whose staff travel through Gatwick. If you are booking for a colleague or a visitor, put their name and mobile number in the booking so the driver can contact them directly, and add your own email for the confirmation. Several travellers going to the same flight can share an MPV or the executive minivan.

What is in the price

One figure, agreed before you travel. Road charges such as ULEZ and the Congestion Charge are in it, so is the airport’s own drop-off or collection fee, and so is the time the driver spends in traffic. We do not add a night rate or a surge when it rains.

Extras are few and stated up front: child seats are £10 each, and a return booked together is 5% cheaper than two singles.

A word on airport charges, since they confuse people. Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Luton, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and most other UK airports now charge vehicles a fee to drop off at the terminal or to wait for arrivals in the short-stay car park. Some taxi firms quote without it and ask you for it on the day. Ours is already counted, and so is any London clean-air or congestion charge on the route.

Arriving at Gatwick, going to Hyde Park

Booking the inbound trip too? The driver will be at Gatwick when you land and brings you straight to the hotel door.

On the way back, give us your flight number and we do the rest. The driver checks the landing time, waits inside arrivals with a name sign, and allows a free hour after the flight lands for passport control and bags. Door-to-door pickups include five minutes of free waiting.

Book both journeys together for a 5% discount on the pair.

When to set off

Allow about three hours before a European departure and three and a half before a long-haul flight. On Friday afternoons, around school holidays and on the evenings of large Hyde Park events, add 30 minutes. If you are not sure, call us and tell us your flight time; we will suggest a pickup time.

Cars and how much they hold

Most couples are fine in a saloon. Families with a case each usually need the estate, because a saloon boot fits two big bags. Groups of up to six go in the MPV, and up to eight in the 8-seater, which also has room for eight large cases. If you want a Mercedes-style business car, book the executive (three passengers) or the executive minivan (eight).

All cars carry their stated number of passengers with a seat belt each. Children count as passengers, including babies in car seats. If you need a baby seat, child seat or booster, ask for it when you book (it is £10 a seat) and tell us the child’s age and weight so we bring the right one.

Other pickups near the park

We also collect from Paddington, Notting Hill, Kensington, Knightsbridge, Belgravia and Mayfair. For the Palace side of Green Park, see Buckingham Palace to Gatwick taxi. For Heathrow from the same area, which is closer, see our Heathrow airport transfers page.

Travelling in comfort

Guests from the Park Lane hotels often book the executive car (£121.13) for the extra legroom and quieter ride, especially before a long-haul flight. For a family group or several colleagues, the executive minivan seats eight with eight large cases. The driver handles the luggage at both ends.

How to book

Enter the pickup and drop-off in the form at the top of this page, pick a date and time, and the booker shows a fixed price for every car. Choose one, add your flight number if you have it, and confirm. Prefer to talk? Call +44 7575 470883, any time of day.

Once you book you get a confirmation with the details. The day before, check the pickup time and address are right; if anything needs changing, call us and we update it. Keep your phone on during the pickup window so the driver can reach you if they cannot find the door.
