From Chelsea, Gatwick is the closer of the big long-haul airports in practice. It’s roughly the same distance as Heathrow but on the right side of London for most of SW3 and SW10. Our booker puts it at about 38 miles from the King’s Road, with a route time of around 70 minutes. A pre-booked car takes you straight from your door to the North or South Terminal, with no trip to Victoria and no Gatwick Express with suitcases.

Gatwick’s Drop-Off Charge

Gatwick raised its forecourt drop-off charge to £10 in January 2026, according to widely reported figures. If someone drives you, they’ll pay it each time. In our fare it’s already included, along with any ULEZ and Congestion Charge costs for the London part of the journey.

How the Driver Gets Out of Chelsea

Getting through south-west London is the slow part. Depending on traffic, drivers usually cross the river at Battersea or Albert Bridge and head south through Clapham or Wandsworth towards the A23 or A24, joining the M23 or the M25 for the final run to the airport. The booker’s 70 minutes is a typical figure. Weekday rush hours and Friday afternoons can be slower, and early mornings are much quicker.

Taxi or Gatwick Express?

Sloane Square is a short hop from Victoria, and the Gatwick Express is quick once you’re on it. The catch is everything around it: getting to Victoria with luggage, the crowds on the concourse, and getting from Gatwick station to your terminal. For a solo traveller with a carry-on, the train is fine. For a family with four big cases, or anyone on an early flight, a car from your front door is far easier. Once three or four people are sharing, the cost per head is often close to the train fares.

North or South Terminal?

Gatwick has two terminals, and your airline decides which one you use. Put your flight number in the booking and the driver will check the terminal on the day. Our Gatwick North Terminal and South Terminal pages explain drop-off and meeting points.

Where We Pick Up

  • King’s Road, Sloane Square and Cheyne Walk
  • Chelsea Harbour and Lots Road
  • The Royal Hospital area and Chelsea Embankment
  • Hotels across SW3 and SW10
  • Nearby Knightsbridge, Pimlico and Fulham

The first 5 minutes of waiting at your door are free. If you’re in a mansion block or a mews with tricky access, add a note.

Coming Home From Gatwick

For the return, give us the inbound flight number. The driver follows the flight, meets you inside arrivals with a name board and gives you an hour of free waiting after landing. That covers the border queues and the wait at the carousel on most days.

Choosing a Vehicle

Book the saloon for one or two passengers with standard luggage, and the estate for four people with large cases. For larger families or groups, the MPV and 8 seater are the same price here. Executive cars suit business trips and special occasions. Child seats are £10 each.
