The drive south from the Palace

From the Palace the driver heads past Victoria and over the river at Vauxhall or Chelsea Bridge, then south on the A23 through Stockwell, Brixton, Streatham and Croydon to the M23 for the last stretch to Gatwick. It is about 39 miles. In the middle of a weekday that usually takes 79 minutes or so; before 7am it can be closer to 50. The slowest parts are normally Brixton Hill and Purley, and drivers will use the A3 and M25 instead when those roads are jammed.

Hotels and streets we collect from

The streets around the Palace have some of London’s best-known hotels, and their doormen are used to us. We collect from the hotels on Buckingham Palace Road and Grosvenor Gardens, from St James’s and Piccadilly, and from the streets of Victoria and Belgravia close by. Tell us the hotel name and we pull up at the main entrance; for private flats, give the full address and the entrance or porter’s desk to use.

Victoria Coach Station and Victoria railway station are both a few minutes away, and we can collect you there if you are arriving in London by coach or train and heading straight on to Gatwick.

Ceremonies, closures and timing

The Mall, Constitution Hill and Birdcage Walk close for ceremonies and state events, and Changing the Guard draws large crowds on the days it runs, usually late morning. Royal events, marches and big sports days can shut roads around Whitehall and Parliament Square too. These closures are announced in advance, and our drivers check them before setting off. If your hotel is inside a closed area on the day, we agree a nearby meeting point by phone.

Gatwick Express, Southern or a taxi?

Victoria station is next door to the Palace, and the Gatwick Express runs from there in around half an hour. For one traveller with light bags that is hard to beat. The picture changes with more people and more luggage. Several Express tickets add up, you still have to get yourself and your cases to Victoria and then from the Gatwick platform to check-in, and the first trains may be too late for a 6am flight.

With four people, the saloon works out at about £24.42 each and goes from your hotel door to the terminal kerb.

When to book your pickup

For flights within Europe, we suggest a pickup about three hours before departure; for long-haul, three and a half to four hours. Ask your hotel concierge what time breakfast and check-out run if you are leaving early, and book the car a little after you plan to be in the lobby. You can always ask the driver to wait a few minutes; the first five are free.

Leaving London after a long stay

At the end of a holiday the luggage has usually grown. Shopping from Jermyn Street or Harrods, gifts for home and a couple of extra bags can turn a two-case trip into a four-case one. Before you book, count what you will actually be taking to Gatwick. If it is more than two large cases, book the estate; if it is more than four, the MPV. The driver can only take what fits safely, and choosing the right car in advance avoids a second taxi.

What the fare includes

The price you see is the price you pay. It already covers the ULEZ and Congestion Charge where the route needs them, the airport’s drop-off or pick-up charge, and fuel. Nothing is added for luggage you told us about when you booked. A child seat is £10 per seat, so add it in the notes box and we bring the right size.

Fares do not go up in heavy traffic or late at night. If the M25 is slow on the day, that is our problem, not yours.

Why mention road charges at all? Because on a meter, or with some app firms, they are added at the end. London’s ULEZ applies every day, and the Congestion Charge applies in central London at set hours. Every UK airport we serve also charges cars to drop off or pick up near the terminal. Rather than leave you guessing, we fold all of it into one number you can see before you book.

Arriving at Gatwick and heading to the Palace area

Many guests book us for both legs of their London trip. On arrival, the driver meets you at Gatwick and brings you to your hotel near the Palace at the same fixed fare.

Landing late? We watch the flight number, not the timetable. Waiting is free for the first hour after touchdown, and your driver stands in the arrivals hall holding your name. When we collect from a house or hotel, please be ready at the booked time; five minutes’ grace is included.

A London stay for a special occasion

Plenty of our customers around Buckingham Palace are in London for something special: a wedding, an anniversary, a once-in-a-lifetime visit. If you would like a more comfortable car for the last leg of the trip, the executive car seats three with two large cases, and the executive minivan carries eight. Both are priced in the table above.

Cars and how much they hold

Most couples are fine in a saloon. Families with a case each usually need the estate, because a saloon boot fits two big bags. Groups of up to six go in the MPV, and up to eight in the 8-seater, which also has room for eight large cases. If you want a Mercedes-style business car, book the executive (three passengers) or the executive minivan (eight).

All cars carry their stated number of passengers with a seat belt each. Children count as passengers, including babies in car seats. If you need a baby seat, child seat or booster, ask for it when you book (it is £10 a seat) and tell us the child’s age and weight so we bring the right one.

Nearby pickups

From this page we also collect from Westminster, St James’s Park, Pimlico, Mayfair and Knightsbridge. For hotels on Park Lane and around Hyde Park, see Hyde Park to Gatwick taxi; for Eaton Square and Belgrave Square, see Gatwick to Belgravia taxi.

Taking more than one family member

A family of five or six with a case each needs the MPV at £124.96 rather than two saloons. Grandparents travelling with children often appreciate the extra room and the higher seats. Car seats for young children cost £10 each and must be requested when you book.

How to book

Enter the pickup and drop-off in the form at the top of this page, pick a date and time, and the booker shows a fixed price for every car. Choose one, add your flight number if you have it, and confirm. Prefer to talk? Call +44 7575 470883, any time of day.

Once you book you get a confirmation with the details. The day before, check the pickup time and address are right; if anything needs changing, call us and we update it. Keep your phone on during the pickup window so the driver can reach you if they cannot find the door.
