A taxi from Oxford to Luton Airport costs from £119.54 in a saloon and takes about one hour 25 minutes. There’s no simple train link between the two, so for most Oxford travellers flying from Luton, a pre-booked car is the practical option, especially for early flights. The fare is fixed when you book.

Oxford to Luton Airport Fares

One-way fares from Oxford railway station to London Luton Airport, quoted from our online booker on 28 October 2026 for a midday pickup:

Vehicle Passengers Suitcases Fare
Saloon 4 2 £119.54
Estate 4 4 £129.86
Executive 3 2 £149.35
MPV 6 4 £153.83
8-seater 8 8 £153.83

The Luton drop-off charge is included. Pickups from Abingdon, Witney, Bicester or Thame are priced from your address in the booking form.

The Route

It’s about 66 miles. Depending on traffic, your driver either goes east through Thame and Aylesbury towards the M1, or takes the M40 and M25 round to the M1. We use whichever is quicker on the day. The fare is the same either way.

Leaving Early for a Morning Flight

Many of Luton’s European departures leave early in the morning. From Oxford, you might need to leave around 3:30am for a 7am flight. Public transport doesn’t really work at that time. There’s no night surcharge, your driver arrives at the time you choose, and you have 5 minutes of free waiting at the door.

Coming Home

For your return, your driver meets you inside the Luton arrivals hall with a name board. We track the flight and you get 60 minutes of free waiting from landing. Book both directions together for 5% off.

Groups and Families

Four people sharing a saloon pay about £30 each. Families with more luggage often choose the estate, which takes four people and four cases for £129.86. For larger groups, the 8-seater takes eight passengers and eight cases. Child seats are £10 each.

Other Airports from Oxford

Heathrow is the closest major airport to Oxford. See Oxford to Heathrow Airport and Oxford to Gatwick Airport. For arrivals into Stansted, there’s Stansted to Oxford. You’ll find fares from more towns on Luton airport transfers from cities.

Fares from Around Oxfordshire

We pick up from any address in the county. Saloon and 8-seater fares to London Luton Airport, quoted from our online booker on 29 October 2026 for a midday pickup:

From Distance Saloon 8-seater Drive estimate
Thame 39 miles £89.72 £115.45 About 63 min
Bicester 42 miles £95.64 £122.83 About 70 min
Headington 61 miles £106.54 £137.69 About 65 min
Banbury 63 miles £115.09 £148.16 About 79 min
Oxford station 66 miles £119.54 £153.83 About 83 min
Abingdon 67 miles £121.10 £155.80 About 85 min
Witney 74 miles £128.87 £165.77 About 91 min

Thame and Bicester are on the eastern side of the county, so they’re much closer to Luton than Oxford itself. Headington, on the eastern edge of Oxford, is about £13 cheaper than the station in the city centre. Witney, west of Oxford, costs the most.

Which Way Does the Driver Go?

There’s no motorway between Oxford and Luton, so the route depends on where you start and the traffic on the day. The two usual choices are:

  • Across country: east on the A40 and A418 through Thame and Aylesbury, then towards the M1 and Luton. It’s shorter in miles, but it runs through towns and villages.
  • By motorway: the M40 towards London, the M25, then the M1 north to junction 10. It’s longer in miles, but quicker when the A-roads are busy.

Your driver will check the traffic before setting off and pick the faster option. The fare is agreed when you book and doesn’t change with the route.

Luton Airport to Oxford

For the return, a saloon from Luton Airport to Oxford station costs £118.62, and the 8-seater £152.80, quoted on 29 October 2026. Book both directions together for 5% off: a saloon from Oxford station to Luton and back comes to £226.25 instead of £238.16.

Your driver meets you inside the Luton arrivals hall with a name board. If your flight lands late, we follow it and the 60 minutes of free waiting start from the actual landing time.

Timing an Early Flight

A worked example for a 6:45am flight from Luton, picking up at Oxford station:

  1. Aim to reach the terminal two hours before departure: 4:45am.
  2. Allow the drive time of about one hour 25 minutes, plus a 20-minute margin.
  3. Book a pickup for around 3:00am.

From Thame or Bicester, you could leave about 15 to 20 minutes later. From Witney, allow an extra 10 minutes. The fare is the same at 3am as at midday.

Why Not the Train?

There’s no direct train from Oxford to Luton Airport Parkway. The usual rail route goes into London Paddington, across to St Pancras, and back out on Thameslink, then onto the DART shuttle to the terminal. That’s several changes, and it doesn’t work at all for most early-morning departures. A coach or bus route can be cheaper for one person, but it’s slower and runs on a fixed timetable. For two or more people with luggage, a direct car often costs a similar amount per person.

Bicester and North Oxfordshire

From Bicester, the fare to Luton is £95.64 in a saloon, and the drive is about an hour and ten minutes. Banbury, further north, is £115.09. For people living in Bicester, Luton is often the simplest airport for European flights: it’s closer than Heathrow for much of north Oxfordshire, and the route avoids the M25.

Headington, Abingdon and the South

Headington sits on the eastern ring road, where the A40 leaves Oxford, so it’s a quicker start than the city centre: about 65 minutes to Luton and £106.54 in a saloon. Abingdon, south of the city, costs £121.10, because the driver first has to go round or through Oxford before heading east. If you live in Kennington, Botley or one of the villages to the south and west, enter your address for the exact fare. It will usually fall between the Abingdon and Witney prices.

Choosing the Car

  • Saloon, £119.54: four passengers and two large cases
  • Estate, £129.86: four passengers and four large cases
  • Executive, £149.35: three passengers and two cases
  • MPV, £153.83: six passengers and four cases
  • 8-seater, £153.83: eight passengers and eight cases

Prices are from Oxford station. If you have ski bags, golf bags or a pushchair, add them in the booking notes so we can make sure there’s room.

Students and Visitors Flying Home

At the end of term, many students in Oxford fly home from Luton on low-cost routes to Europe. If you’re sharing with friends on the same flight, an MPV for six (£153.83 from the station) works out at about £26 each, and you don’t have to drag cases to Paddington. Give us the college or house address, and if several people are being collected from different places, list them in the notes so we can quote the full trip.
