A taxi from Cardiff to Bristol Airport costs £108.43 in a saloon with Airports Taxi UK, fixed when you book. It’s about 49 miles, and the drive usually takes between an hour and a quarter and an hour and a half. The fare includes the Bristol Airport drop-off charge. There are no bridge tolls on the Severn crossings any more, so there’s nothing else to add.

Cardiff has its own airport, but it has far fewer routes than Bristol. For many people in South Wales, Bristol is the airport that has the flight they want, at the time they want, for a better price. The problem is getting there. A taxi to Bristol Airport from Cardiff takes you across the Severn and round Bristol to the terminal without changing between trains and buses.

These are live fares for central Cardiff. Prices from other addresses are worked out in the booking form at the top of the page. Booking the return as well takes 5% off the return leg.

Fares From Newport and South Wales

Pickup Saloon MPV (6 seats) Approx. miles
Newport £86.22 £110.79 34
Cardiff £108.43 £138.87 49

We also pick up from Penarth, Barry, Caerphilly, Pontypridd, Bridgend, Cwmbran, Chepstow and the Valleys, all priced from your exact address. Chepstow and Monmouthshire are closer to Bristol, so they cost a little less than Cardiff.

The Route Across the Severn

From Cardiff the driver takes the M4 east past Newport and over the Prince of Wales Bridge into England. From there it’s the M4 and M5 round the west of Bristol, then cross-country roads or the A38 through south Bristol to the airport at Lulsgate. Most of the journey is motorway; the last few miles to the airport are the slowest part.

The Brynglas Tunnels near Newport are the usual bottleneck on the Welsh side, especially at rush hour, and the M5 around Avonmouth can be slow at busy times. Our drivers check the traffic before setting off and allow extra time for early morning departures. The fare doesn’t change if the journey takes longer.

Taxi or Train From Cardiff to Bristol Airport?

By public transport, you’d take a train from Cardiff Central to Bristol Temple Meads, then the airport bus from Temple Meads up to the terminal. It works well in the middle of the day if you’re travelling light, and it’s cheaper for one person. Allow around an hour and a half to two hours in total, including the change.

For families, groups, people with heavy luggage and anyone on an early flight, the taxi is easier. The first trains from Cardiff won’t get you to Bristol Airport in time for a 6am departure, and carrying cases between a train and a bus is no fun at 4am. For three or four people, the taxi fare per head often compares well with train and bus tickets.

Cardiff Airport or Bristol Airport?

Cardiff Airport at Rhoose is closer to most of South Wales, and if it has your flight, it’s a shorter and cheaper trip. Bristol, though, has many more destinations and more flights each day, especially to holiday destinations. Many people in Cardiff and Newport find the best fares and times are from Bristol. For more on flying from Cardiff, see our Cardiff airport taxi guide.

Taxi From Bristol Airport to Cardiff

On the way back, book with your flight number. We track the flight, the driver meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name board, and you get an hour of free waiting from the time you land. A taxi from Bristol Airport to Cardiff costs about the same as the outward journey, and booking both directions together gives you 5% off the return. After a late flight, it’s a lot easier than hoping the last train back to Cardiff is still running.

Business Travel From Cardiff

For business trips, our executive cars give you a quiet ride where you can work or take calls on the way to the airport. A fixed fare makes expenses simple, and companies that book regularly can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing.

Pickups in Cardiff

  • Cardiff city centre, Cardiff Bay, Pontcanna and Canton
  • Roath, Cathays, Llandaff, Whitchurch and Rhiwbina
  • Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolitan University
  • Penarth, Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan
  • Caerphilly, Pontypridd and the Valleys

The driver collects you from your door and helps with your bags. You get five minutes of free waiting at the pickup.

Students Flying Home From Bristol

Students at Cardiff University, Cardiff Met and the University of South Wales often fly from Bristol because of the wider choice of flights home. At the end of term, with a year’s worth of belongings, the train-and-bus route is hard work. Book an estate for a full set of luggage, give us your hall or house address and a UK mobile number, and the driver will message you when they’re outside.

When to Leave Cardiff for Your Flight

Allow an hour and a half for the drive, plus a margin for the Brynglas Tunnels and the M5. For a flight at 8am, with check-in two hours earlier, a pickup around 4:15am to 4:30am usually works. Bristol Airport’s security queues can be long on summer mornings, so it’s worth arriving with time to spare. Tell us your flight time when booking and we’ll suggest a pickup time.

Groups and Sports Fans

South Wales sends a lot of groups abroad: rugby and football supporters following their teams, stag and hen parties, and families going on holiday together. Our 8 seaters take eight people and eight cases on one fixed fare, which is usually cheaper per head than trains and buses. For bigger groups, we can send several vehicles timed together.

Driving and Parking vs a Taxi

Driving to Bristol Airport from Cardiff means about an hour and a half each way, plus airport parking for the length of your trip. The airport car parks book up in the summer, and late bookings cost more. A return taxi costs a fixed amount, there’s no car to collect at the end of a long flight, and nobody has to do the drive home tired. For trips of a week or more, the taxi often works out cheaper once parking is counted.

Travelling With Children

Child seats are available at £10 each. Tell us the ages when you book and the right seats will come fitted. An MPV gives a family of five or six room to spread out, with space for pushchairs and holiday bags.

Which Vehicle Do You Need?

A saloon carries four passengers with two large cases. For four people with full-size cases, choose the estate. The MPV takes six passengers and the 8 seater eight. Executive cars are available for business travel. Child seats cost £10 each.
