A taxi from Gloucester to Gatwick Airport costs £201.07 in a saloon to the South Terminal and £198.10 to the North Terminal with Airports Taxi UK, a fixed fare for a drive of about 132 miles and 2 hours 32 minutes. The price includes ULEZ, the Congestion Charge and the Gatwick drop-off charge, so the quote is what you pay.
Gloucester to Gatwick Airport is one of the longest regular runs we do, about 131 miles from Gloucestershire to the Sussex border. It’s a trip people make because Gatwick has the flight they need, often a holiday or long-haul route that Bristol and Birmingham don’t offer, and because the alternatives involve a long train journey with changes or a coach timetable. A pre-booked airport transfer to Gatwick from your front door turns it into a single, predictable journey at a fixed price.
Below is the full taxi to Gatwick cost for each vehicle, the route and drive time, suggested pickup times for different flights, and an honest comparison with the train and coach.

The Drive From Gloucester to Gatwick
From Gloucester, your driver normally heads south-east on the A417 and A419 past Cirencester to the M4 near Swindon, then east along the M4 to the M25 at junction 15, anticlockwise round past Heathrow to junction 7, and down the M23 spur into Gatwick. Our booking system puts it at about 131 miles and around two and a half hours in clear traffic.
The A417 at the Air Balloon junction near Birdlip, the M4 into Reading and the western M25 are the usual pinch points. On a long run like this, drivers will take a short break if needed and still get you there on time; the fare is fixed regardless of traffic or route.
Planning Your Pickup Time
Airlines usually ask you to be at Gatwick two hours before short-haul flights and three hours before long-haul. From Gloucester, pickups are early:
| Flight from Gatwick | Suggested pickup in Gloucester |
|---|---|
| 6:00am short-haul | 1:00am to 1:15am |
| 9:00am short-haul | 3:45am to 4:00am |
| 12:00pm long-haul | 5:30am |
| 5:00pm short-haul | 11:30am to 11:45am |
For very early flights, some passengers prefer to travel the evening before and stay near Gatwick. We can take you to an airport hotel just as easily; give the hotel address as your drop-off.
Taxi, Train or Coach?
There’s no direct train from Gloucester to Gatwick. The usual route is a train towards Swindon and Reading, then the Great Western Railway service from Reading that runs through Guildford and Redhill to Gatwick. It takes around three hours with at least one change, longer if connections don’t line up, and the Reading to Gatwick trains run roughly hourly. National Express coaches also link the area with Gatwick, but they’re slower still and run to fixed times.
For four people in a saloon, the taxi comes to about £50.27 each, from your door to the terminal.
Gloucester Pickups
We collect from the city centre and Gloucester Quays, Hucclecote, Quedgeley, Longlevens, Barnwood, Abbeymead, Kingsway and the villages around the city. For rural homes or new estates, add directions or a what3words reference when you book. Your driver waits up to 5 minutes free at the door.
Gatwick, Heathrow or Bristol From Gloucester?
Bristol and Birmingham airports are both within about an hour of Gloucester, and Heathrow is around 30 minutes closer than Gatwick. Gatwick is worth the extra distance when it has the flight you need: it’s easyJet’s biggest UK base and has many TUI, Jet2, British Airways and long-haul holiday routes that the regional airports don’t. We run fixed fares from Gloucester to all of them.
Long-Distance Comfort
On a journey of two and a half hours, the car matters. If you’d like more room to rest, choose the estate or the Executive car; families with young children often prefer the MPV, with space to spread out. Tell us if you’d like a comfort stop on the way and we’ll plan for it.
Areas Around Gloucester We Cover
The same fixed fares to Gatwick cover Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cirencester, Churchdown, Brockworth, Painswick, Newent and Stonehouse. Enter your exact address in the booking form to see your price.
Arriving Back at Gatwick
For the journey home, give us your flight number. We track the flight and your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall, holding a name board if you’d like one. You get one hour of free waiting from the time the flight actually lands, so passport queues and baggage delays aren’t a worry. The drive home to Gloucester usually takes about two and a half hours.
North or South Terminal?
Gatwick has two terminals, linked by a free shuttle train that takes about two minutes. Your airline decides which one you use; the flight number on your booking lets us check. If you’re not sure, the Gatwick postcodes are RH6 0NP for the South Terminal and RH6 0PJ for the North Terminal, and our Gatwick postcode guide explains which airlines use which.
Dropping Off and Collecting at Gatwick
If a friend or relative drives you instead, they’ll pay Gatwick’s £10 forecourt drop-off charge, and collecting you means the Gatwick short stay pick up car parks, charged by the time spent there. With an Airports Taxi UK booking, the drop-off charge is already in the fare and your driver handles the parking when they collect you. Our guide to picking someone up at Gatwick explains the options if you are collecting someone yourself.

Booking Ahead
You can book as soon as your flights are confirmed. The price is fixed at the time of booking and doesn’t rise at peak times, so there’s no advantage in waiting. In the school holidays and at bank holiday weekends, early-morning slots go quickly, so booking a week or two ahead is sensible. If your flight time changes, update the booking or call us and we’ll move the pickup.
