The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane is one of the classic hotels of Mayfair. It opened in 1927 as the Park Lane Hotel, and the Portland stone building on Piccadilly is Grade II listed, with an Art Deco ballroom that is still used for weddings and events. The front of the hotel faces Green Park, and from the upper floors you can see across the park towards Buckingham Palace. Despite the name, the hotel’s entrance is on Piccadilly, a short walk east of Hyde Park Corner, rather than on Park Lane itself.
This page is about getting there from the airport. We are Airports Taxi UK, an independent airport transfer company. We are not connected with the hotel or with Marriott, which runs the Sheraton brand, but we drive guests to and from this address regularly from Heathrow and Gatwick. A saloon from Heathrow to the hotel currently costs £64, and from Gatwick £109, at a fixed price agreed when you book.
The Building
The Park Lane Hotel opened in 1927, when this stretch of Piccadilly was being rebuilt with large hotels and apartment blocks in place of older private houses. It was designed in a grand Art Deco style, with a Portland stone front and a mansard roof, and it is now Grade II listed. The restored Art Deco ballroom is one of the best-known event spaces in Mayfair and a big part of the hotel’s appeal for weddings and dinners. Today the hotel has around 300 rooms across eight floors, many of them looking out over Green Park towards Buckingham Palace.
Where the Hotel Is
The hotel is on Piccadilly, London W1J 7BX, between Hyde Park Corner and Green Park station. Green Park itself is directly opposite. The Ritz is a few minutes’ walk east along Piccadilly, and Buckingham Palace is across the park. Shepherd Market, a small area of pubs and restaurants in the heart of Mayfair, is just behind the hotel. For visitors, it is a very central base: the West End, St James’s and Knightsbridge are all within a 15 to 20 minute walk.
The nearest Underground stations are Green Park, on the Piccadilly, Victoria and Jubilee lines, and Hyde Park Corner, on the Piccadilly line. Both are a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.
Heathrow to the Sheraton Grand Park Lane by Taxi
From Heathrow, the drive is one of the simpler airport runs into central London. The car takes the M4 and the A4, through Hammersmith and along Cromwell Road, past South Kensington and Knightsbridge to Hyde Park Corner, then onto Piccadilly. Allow about 45 to 75 minutes, depending on traffic. Weekday mornings are the slowest, and late evenings and weekends are usually quicker. These are the fixed one-way fares our booking system is currently quoting from Heathrow to the hotel:
| Vehicle | Takes up to | One-way fare |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon | 4 passengers, 2 large cases | £64 |
| Estate | 4 passengers, 4 large cases | £70 |
| Executive | 3 passengers, 2 large cases | £84 |
| People carrier (MPV) | 6 passengers, 4 large cases | £82 |
| 8 Seater | 8 passengers, 8 large cases | £82 |
| Executive Minivan | 8 passengers, 8 large cases | £109 |
The fare is for the whole car, not per person, and it does not change if the traffic is heavy. Booking a return journey at the same time takes 5% off the return leg. For your exact price, enter the hotel and your terminal in the booking form at the top of this page.
Gatwick to the Sheraton Grand Park Lane by Taxi
From Gatwick, the drive is longer, usually 75 minutes to an hour and 45 minutes. The route runs north on the M23 and A23 through south London, crosses the Thames at Vauxhall or Chelsea, and reaches Piccadilly via Victoria or Hyde Park Corner. Rush hours and Friday afternoons add the most time. These are our current fixed fares from Gatwick:
| Vehicle | Takes up to | One-way fare |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon | 4 passengers, 2 large cases | £109 |
| Estate | 4 passengers, 4 large cases | £119 |
| Executive | 3 passengers, 2 large cases | £137 |
| People carrier (MPV) | 6 passengers, 4 large cases | £140 |
| 8 Seater | 8 passengers, 8 large cases | £140 |
| Executive Minivan | 8 passengers, 8 large cases | £177 |
By Train or Tube
The hotel is well placed for public transport too, and we would not pretend otherwise. From Heathrow, the Piccadilly line runs directly to Hyde Park Corner and Green Park without a change, in around 45 to 50 minutes. It is the cheapest way, but the trains can be crowded, and at peak times there is little room for luggage. The Heathrow Express to Paddington is quicker, but you then need a taxi or the Tube from Paddington to Piccadilly.
From Gatwick, the Gatwick Express runs to Victoria in about 30 minutes, and from Victoria it is one stop on the Victoria line to Green Park, or a short taxi ride. With light luggage, that works well. With several cases, children, or after a long-haul flight, most people find a car to the door easier.
Arriving at the Hotel
Piccadilly is a busy main road with bus lanes and restrictions on stopping, so the driver will stop at the safest point close to the entrance and help you with your luggage. The hotel’s doormen will usually come out to take the bags. If you are arriving early in the morning after an overnight flight, check with the hotel in advance about early check-in or storing your bags. Standard check-in times at London hotels are usually mid-afternoon.
If you need to stop on the way, for example to drop a colleague at a different address, add the extra stop in the booking form and the price will include it.
Leaving for Your Flight
For a flight from Heathrow, allow two hours before a short-haul departure and three hours before a long-haul one, plus the drive. That usually means leaving the hotel about three and a half to four hours before a long-haul flight, and a little earlier on weekday afternoons, when Cromwell Road and the A4 are busy. For Gatwick, add another 30 to 45 minutes. Tell us your flight time when you book and we will suggest a pickup time. The driver will meet you at the hotel entrance or in the lobby.
Weddings, Events and Groups
The hotel’s ballroom and event rooms host weddings, gala dinners and conferences, and many guests fly in for them. For groups, a people carrier takes six passengers with four cases, and our 8-seater and executive minivan take eight passengers with eight cases. For wedding parties and conference delegates arriving on different flights, we can arrange a pickup for each flight and invoice them together. For larger groups, we run 12-seater and 16-seater minibuses.
For a special occasion, our executive cars are a good choice. They are ideal for guests of honour or anyone who wants a quieter, more comfortable ride in from the airport.
Business Travel
Mayfair and St James’s are home to many investment firms, private banks and family offices, and a good number of our pickups at this hotel are business travellers. If you are flying in for meetings, an executive car from Heathrow gets you there in time to change before your first appointment, and we can email a receipt for your expense claim afterwards. If you are staying on to fly out of London City Airport or another airport, we can arrange that too.
Things to Do Nearby
Green Park is directly across the road, and a walk through it brings you to Buckingham Palace in about ten minutes. St James’s Park, with its lake and views of Whitehall, is just beyond. Along Piccadilly you will find the Royal Academy of Arts, Fortnum & Mason and the Burlington Arcade. Hyde Park and the Wellington Arch are a few minutes west, and Bond Street and Oxford Street are a short walk north. For ideas further afield, see our guide to things to do in London.
Travel Tips for Overseas Guests
- Visitors from the US, Canada, Australia and many other countries now need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). It costs £20 and is applied for online.
- Contactless cards work on the Tube, buses and in most shops and restaurants.
- Traffic drives on the left, so look right first when crossing Piccadilly.
- London weather changes quickly. Pack a light rain jacket or an umbrella.
Other Hotels on and Around Park Lane
If you are comparing hotels in the area, there are several large hotels along Park Lane itself, facing Hyde Park, and more in the streets of Mayfair behind it. The airport fares to all of them are very similar to those above, because they are all within a few hundred metres. Enter any hotel address in the booking form for a fixed price. Our guide to London hotel areas compares Mayfair with the other main areas.
