Right next to the motorways

Merstham sits beside the big junction where the M25 meets the M23, which makes it one of the best-connected villages in Surrey for airport trips. Gatwick is a straight run south on the M23, around 14 miles. Heathrow is west along the M25, usually 44 minutes. Stansted and London City are further, but still reached without crossing central London: the M25 east and the Dartford Crossing for Stansted, around 73 minutes.

Merstham to Gatwick

This is our most common booking in the village. Out of Merstham, the driver joins the M23 and comes off at the Gatwick spur, so the journey is mostly motorway and fairly predictable. Allow about 19 minutes, a little more if the M23 has roadworks overnight. For a short-haul flight, a pickup two and a half hours before departure is usually plenty from here.

Local runs: stations, hospital and towns

Merstham station has trains towards London and Redhill, but plenty of people prefer Redhill for faster services, about 6 minutes away by car. We also go to East Croydon for fast trains into London Bridge and Victoria, and to East Surrey Hospital, Reigate, Coulsdon and Purley. Please book local trips in advance, because our cars are often committed to airport runs.

Pickups around the village

We collect from the old village around Quality Street and the High Street, the larger estates to the north and east, and the roads near the station. Some roads near the motorway junction have no easy stopping place, so tell us if there is a side road or a car park we should use. For homes along School Hill and the A23, the driver will choose a safe spot and call you.

Heathrow from Merstham

Heathrow is about 34 miles round the M25. That is a long way by public transport, which involves trains into London and back out again, so most people from Merstham go by car. A saloon is £76.43, and four people sharing it pay about £19.11 each. For long-haul flights we recommend leaving three and a half hours before departure, as the M25 between junctions 8 and 14 is one of the busiest stretches in the country.

Gatton, Chipstead and Hooley

This page covers Merstham and nearby areas: Gatton, South Merstham, Chipstead, Hooley and Netherne-on-the-Hill. For Redhill and Reigate, see our Redhill to Gatwick taxi and Reigate to Gatwick taxi pages.

A typical early start from Merstham

Suppose you are on a 6:40 flight from Gatwick South Terminal. Book the car for 4:15. At that hour the M23 is almost empty and you are at the terminal before 4:40, which is about when bag drop opens for the first wave of flights. You avoid the wait for an early train, you do not have to leave a car in the airport car park for a week, and the fare is the same as it would be at midday.

Parking at Gatwick versus a taxi

Many Merstham households have a car and wonder whether to drive and park instead. For a weekend away, airport parking can be good value. For a week or two, parking charges add up, and you have the shuttle bus from the car park at both ends. Two taxi trips at £49.42 each way often compare well, especially once you count fuel, and nobody has to drive home tired after a long flight.

What the fare includes

The price you see is the price you pay. It already covers the ULEZ and Congestion Charge where the route needs them, the airport’s drop-off or pick-up charge, and fuel. Nothing is added for luggage you told us about when you booked. A child seat is £10 per seat, so add it in the notes box and we bring the right size.

Fares do not go up in heavy traffic or late at night. If the M25 is slow on the day, that is our problem, not yours.

Why mention road charges at all? Because on a meter, or with some app firms, they are added at the end. London’s ULEZ applies every day, and the Congestion Charge applies in central London at set hours. Every UK airport we serve also charges cars to drop off or pick up near the terminal. Rather than leave you guessing, we fold all of it into one number you can see before you book.

Coming home to Merstham

Book your collection with your flight number and the driver will be ready.

On the way back, give us your flight number and we do the rest. The driver checks the landing time, waits inside arrivals with a name sign, and allows a free hour after the flight lands for passport control and bags. Door-to-door pickups include five minutes of free waiting.

From Gatwick you will be back in Merstham in about twenty minutes.

Groups, cruises and golf trips

Merstham is a good starting point for Southampton and Dover cruises, for golf trips from Gatwick, and for family holidays. An estate holds four people and four large cases; the MPV six people and four cases; the 8-seater eight people and eight cases. For golf bags, choose the estate or MPV and mention them in the notes.

Cars and how much they hold

Most couples are fine in a saloon. Families with a case each usually need the estate, because a saloon boot fits two big bags. Groups of up to six go in the MPV, and up to eight in the 8-seater, which also has room for eight large cases. If you want a Mercedes-style business car, book the executive (three passengers) or the executive minivan (eight).

All cars carry their stated number of passengers with a seat belt each. Children count as passengers, including babies in car seats. If you need a baby seat, child seat or booster, ask for it when you book (it is £10 a seat) and tell us the child’s age and weight so we bring the right one.

Walkers on the North Downs Way

The North Downs Way runs right past Merstham, and we sometimes collect walkers at the end of a section, or take them back to a starting point. Book in advance with a meeting place we can reach by car, such as a pub car park or a station, rather than a footpath.

Why book in advance?

On the day, cabs in a village like Merstham can be hard to find, particularly early in the morning or late at night. Booking ahead gives you a named car at a fixed price, sized for your luggage. The price does not change if the M25 is busy.

Booking takes two minutes

Use the booking form above: addresses, date, passengers and bags. You will see the price for each vehicle straight away. For airport collections add the flight number so the driver can follow it. Questions about a group, a stop on the way or a very early start are easier on the phone: +44 7575 470883.

Your booking is confirmed straight away. If your plans change, a new flight time or an extra passenger, tell us as soon as you know; if the car size has to change, you will see the new fixed price before anything is confirmed.
