A London City Airport to Gatwick taxi takes about an hour at midday and costs from £96.18 in a saloon, with the fare fixed when you book. It’s a cross-London airport transfer of about 48 miles, so it’s one of the routes where a pre-booked car saves the most hassle compared with changing trains with luggage. London City to Gatwick Taxi Fares

One-way fares from London City Airport to Gatwick North Terminal, quoted from our online booker on 27 October 2026 for a midday pickup:

Vehicle Passengers Suitcases Fare
Saloon 4 2 £96.18
Estate 4 4 £105.05
Executive 3 2 £122.06
MPV 6 4 £124.06

The price you see in the booking form is the price you pay. It already includes ULEZ, the Congestion Charge and the Gatwick drop-off charge, and there’s no extra for early-morning or late-night travel. Booking the return leg at the same time takes 5% off both journeys. Child seats are £10 each.

How the Journey Works

London City Airport sits in the Royal Docks in east London, and Gatwick is south of the M25 near Crawley, so the drive crosses or skirts the capital. Our booker estimated about 63 minutes for a midday pickup. Allow longer in the weekday rush hours and on Friday afternoons, when traffic in south-east London builds up.

Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall at London City, with your flight tracked. You get 60 minutes of free waiting from the time your flight lands, so a late arrival or a slow baggage reclaim is covered. London City has a single terminal, so there’s no question of which arrivals hall to use.

At Gatwick, tell us whether you’re flying from the North or South Terminal. The fare is the same to either, but the driver needs to know where to drop you. Check your airline’s terminal before you book.

Connecting Between London City and Gatwick

Many people on this route are changing flights, often arriving at London City on a business or short-haul flight and leaving Gatwick on a holiday or long-haul departure. If you’re travelling on separate tickets, leave plenty of time between landing at London City and the check-in or bag-drop deadline at Gatwick. Your airline’s minimum check-in time is the figure to work back from.

Add your arrival flight number to the booking. If your incoming flight is delayed, your pickup moves with it, so you don’t have to call us from the plane.

Taxi or Train?

By public transport, you’d take the DLR from London City and then a train to Gatwick, with at least one change in central London. That’s the cheapest way for one person with light luggage. A taxi is the easier choice if you have heavy bags, children, or a tight connection, or if you’re travelling as a group. An 8-seater at £124.06 works out at about £15.50 each for eight people.

Which Car to Book

Choose by luggage as well as passengers. A saloon takes four people but only two suitcases. If you have four large cases, book an estate or an MPV. For a group or a family with lots of luggage, the 8-seater takes eight passengers and eight cases, and on this route it costs the same as an MPV.

Booking Your London City to Gatwick Taxi

  1. Choose one way or return. A return booked together is 5% cheaper.
  2. Enter London City Airport as the pickup and your Gatwick terminal as the drop-off. If you need to stop on the way, for example at a hotel to collect a colleague, use “Add Via”.
  3. Pick the date and time. For a London City pickup, use your scheduled landing time and add your flight number, so the driver follows any change.
  4. Choose the vehicle. All six cars show a live fixed price.
  5. Add passenger, luggage and child-seat details, then confirm. Your booking confirmation arrives by email.

Practical Tips for This Transfer

Arriving at London City

London City is compact, and passengers on short-haul flights with hand luggage can often be in the arrivals hall soon after landing. If you’re checking a bag, allow extra time at reclaim. Either way, your 60 minutes of free waiting runs from landing, so there’s no need to rush.

Departing from Gatwick

Gatwick’s North and South Terminals are linked by a free shuttle train, but it’s easier to be dropped at the right one. Each airline is assigned to one terminal, so check your booking or the airline’s website. Gatwick charges drivers to use its terminal forecourts, and that charge is already in our fare.

Travelling as a family

Tell us the ages of any children when you book so we can fit the right seat. Child seats cost £10 each. Pushchairs and car seats you bring yourself take up boot space, so count them as luggage when choosing the car.

Travelling for business

The Executive car takes three passengers and two cases, for when you want a quieter journey between meetings and flights. Because the fare is fixed in advance, the cost is known before you travel, which makes expense claims simpler.
