A taxi from Leicester to Birmingham Airport costs £85.18 in a saloon with Airports Taxi UK, fixed when you book. The drive is about 38 miles and usually takes just under an hour. The price includes the Birmingham Airport drop-off charge, so there’s nothing extra to pay at the terminal.

For most of Leicestershire, Birmingham is the obvious airport for anything beyond the short European routes from East Midlands. It’s close enough for an easy drive but awkward by train, which is why a taxi from Leicester to Birmingham International Airport is one of the routes we run most in the Midlands.

Coventry is only a few miles from the airport, so it’s one of our cheapest airport transfers. Coventry pickups are just as easy to book, and the same service applies: fixed fare, door-to-door, and meet and greet on the way back.

Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International: What’s the Difference?

People often mix these up. Birmingham Airport is the airport itself, sometimes still called Birmingham International Airport. Birmingham International is the railway station next to it, which also serves the NEC. They’re linked by the free Air-Rail Link shuttle. If you’re booking a taxi to Birmingham Airport from Leicester, we’ll drop you right outside the terminal, not at the station, unless you ask us to.

The Route From Leicester

The driver takes the M69 south-west from Leicester towards Coventry, joins the M6 at junction 2, and then the M42 at junction 7 or via the M6 to junction 4. Birmingham Airport is off junction 6 of the M42. It’s mostly motorway, and outside rush hour it takes under an hour.

The slow points are the M6 around Coventry and the M42 near the NEC, especially on weekday mornings and when a large event is on at the NEC. The fare stays the same if traffic makes the journey longer.

Taxi or Train From Leicester?

There’s no direct train from Leicester to the airport. You’d take a CrossCountry train to Birmingham New Street, then another train back out to Birmingham International, which takes around an hour and a half door to door with a change at New Street. On some routes you can change at Nuneaton or Coventry instead, but connections can be tight.

The taxi takes under an hour from your front door. For two or more people, or anyone with holiday luggage or an early flight, it’s usually the better option. The first trains of the morning often won’t get you to Birmingham in time for a 6am or 7am departure.

Choosing a Pickup Time

Most airlines ask you to be at the airport two hours before a European flight and three hours before long-haul. From central Leicester, allow an hour for the drive and add 15 to 30 minutes if you’re travelling in the morning rush or on a Friday afternoon. For a 7am flight to Spain, a pickup at about 3:45am is about right. The roads are almost empty at that hour, so you’ll often arrive early. When you book, tell us your flight time and we’ll check the pickup time makes sense.

How Much Is a Taxi to Birmingham Airport, Really?

When comparing quotes, check what’s included. Our fare covers:

  • The Birmingham Airport drop-off charge
  • Five minutes of free waiting at your door
  • Flight tracking and an hour of free waiting when you come back
  • Meet and greet inside the arrivals hall
  • Help with your luggage

Some cheap taxis to Birmingham Airport quote a lower headline price and add waiting time, parking or the drop-off charge at the end. Ours doesn’t change after you book.

Pickups Across Leicestershire

We collect from anywhere in the county, including:

  • Leicester city centre, Clarendon Park, Stoneygate and Evington
  • Oadby, Wigston, Blaby and Glenfield
  • Hinckley, Lutterworth and Market Harborough
  • Loughborough, Coalville, Melton Mowbray and Ashby-de-la-Zouch
  • The University of Leicester, De Montfort University and Loughborough University

Students at Leicester and Loughborough

International students at the University of Leicester, De Montfort and Loughborough often fly from Birmingham, especially at the start and end of term. If that’s you, give us the name of your hall or your address and a phone number that works in the UK. An estate is usually the best choice for a full set of luggage. If you’re arriving at the start of the year, we can bring you from Birmingham Airport straight to your accommodation.

Late-Night Arrivals

Plenty of holiday flights land at Birmingham after 11pm, when trains are thin and the last connection to Leicester may already have gone. A pre-booked car is waiting for you whatever time you land, and the driver tracks the flight so a late arrival doesn’t leave you stranded. There’s no queue at a taxi rank and no surge pricing at midnight.

Flying From East Midlands Instead?

If your flight is from East Midlands Airport, it’s a shorter, cheaper trip: Leicester to East Midlands is £60.51 in a saloon. See our East Midlands Airport taxi page for fares across the region.

Hinckley, Lutterworth and the M1 Corridor

Towns in the south and west of the county, like Hinckley, Burbage and Lutterworth, are even closer to the airport than Leicester, so their fares are usually lower. Put your address in the booking form for the exact price.

Coming Home From Birmingham Airport

For the return journey from Birmingham Airport to Leicester, book with your flight number. We track the flight, so an early landing or a delay doesn’t cause problems. The driver waits inside arrivals with a name board and you get an hour of free waiting after landing. After a long flight, it’s a quick, straightforward drive home.

Groups, Weddings and Sports Teams

Leicestershire sends a lot of groups abroad: stag and hen parties, golf trips, wedding guests and sports teams. Our 8 seaters take eight people and eight cases on a single fixed fare, and we can send several vehicles timed together for larger groups. It’s usually cheaper per head than trains, and much easier than coordinating several cars and finding airport parking.

Travelling With Children

With children, a taxi is the calm way to start a holiday. The car comes to your door, the bags go in the boot, and nobody is rushing for a connection at New Street. Book child seats in advance at £10 each, and tell us the ages so the right seats come with the car.

Which Vehicle Do You Need?

A saloon takes four people with two large cases. The estate fits four cases, the MPV six passengers, and the 8 seater eight passengers with eight cases. Executive cars suit business travellers. Child seats are £10 each; let us know the ages when booking.

Why Book With Airports Taxi UK?

We run fixed-fare airport taxis to every major UK airport, and Leicester to Birmingham is one of our regular Midlands routes. Drivers are licensed, bookings are taken 24 hours a day, and the price you see is the price you pay. Book both ways and you save 5% on the return.
