A taxi from Edinburgh to Glasgow Airport costs £113.09 in a saloon with Airports Taxi UK, fixed when you book. It’s about 59 miles along the M8 and usually takes around an hour and 20 minutes. Edinburgh has its own airport, so why go to Glasgow? Sometimes the flight you want only runs from Glasgow, or it’s cheaper there, or the timing is better. Sometimes it’s a diverted flight, a missed connection, or a holiday booked from the west coast. Whatever the reason, a taxi from Edinburgh to Glasgow Airport is the simplest way to get there. There’s no rail link to Glasgow Airport, so the train always means changing onto a bus.

The Route Along the M8
It’s a straightforward drive. From central Edinburgh the driver heads west past the Gyle and onto the M8, which runs past Livingston, Harthill and Glasgow city centre. Glasgow Airport is just beyond the city at junction 28, next to Paisley.
Outside rush hour it’s about an hour and ten to an hour and twenty minutes. The M8 through central Glasgow is the slowest part, especially between junctions 15 and 21 at peak times. Our drivers allow extra time for early morning departures and Friday afternoons. The price stays the same if it takes longer.
Taxi or Train and Bus?
By public transport, you’d take the train from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow, which is fast and frequent, then the airport express bus from the city centre, or a train to Paisley and a bus from there. With the change and the waits, it’s often two hours or more, and you’ll be carrying your bags between platforms and bus stops.
The train and bus are cheaper for one person travelling light. For two or more people, or with suitcases, or for an early flight, a fixed-fare taxi from Edinburgh to Glasgow is easier and often similar in cost per head.
When to Leave Edinburgh
Aim to be at Glasgow Airport two hours before a short-haul flight and three before long-haul. Allow an hour and a half from Edinburgh to cover traffic. For a 7am departure, that means leaving around 3:30am. Early mornings are the quickest time on the M8, so you’ll often get there early. Tell us your flight time when booking and we’ll suggest a pickup time.
Diverted Flights and Missed Connections
Bad weather and operational problems sometimes send flights to the other airport. If you’ve been diverted from Edinburgh to Glasgow, or the other way round, call us. We can usually arrange a car quickly to take you on. If you’re booked to arrive at one airport and leave from the other on a connection, book both journeys with your flight numbers and we’ll track them.
Travelling With Children
A long day of travel is easier when the first leg is a car from your front door. Child seats are available at £10 each; tell us the ages when booking and the right seats will be fitted before the driver arrives. An MPV gives a family room for pushchairs and holiday bags, and the driver will stop on the way if anyone needs a break.
Booking for Someone Else
You can book a Glasgow Airport transfer for a relative, a guest or a colleague. Add their mobile number to the booking so the driver can contact them directly, and put any notes about extra help or luggage in the comments.
Glasgow Airport to Edinburgh
We run the route in reverse too. A taxi from Glasgow Airport to Edinburgh comes with flight tracking, meet and greet inside the arrivals hall and an hour of free waiting after landing. For the journey from Glasgow city to Edinburgh Airport, see our Glasgow to Edinburgh Airport taxi page.
