Dallas to London flights all leave from DFW and all land at Heathrow. Two airlines fly the route nonstop, American Airlines and British Airways, with around three departures a day. The flight takes about 9 hours 15 minutes, and London is six hours ahead of Dallas for most of the year. DFW is American’s biggest hub, so a lot of people on these flights have connected from elsewhere in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas or further afield, and by the time they reach London they have had a long day.
That is where we come in. Airports Taxi UK is a pre-booked transfer company, and we meet Dallas flights at Heathrow every day. The driver tracks your flight, waits in arrivals with a name board, and drives you to your hotel, office or home at a fixed fare agreed when you book. A saloon from Heathrow to central London currently costs £67.
American or British Airways?
American and BA run their transatlantic flights as a joint business, which means they coordinate schedules and sell seats on each other’s planes. You might book on aa.com and fly on a BA aircraft, or the other way round. The two airlines use different terminals at Heathrow, though, so it helps to know which one is actually flying the plane.
| Operating airline | Heathrow terminal | Aircraft often used |
|---|---|---|
| American Airlines | Terminal 3 | Boeing 777 and 787 |
| British Airways | Terminal 5 | Boeing 777, 787, Airbus A350 or A380 |
Your booking shows “operated by” next to the flight number. When you book a taxi with us, give us the flight number and we will match it to the terminal automatically. Departures from DFW run from mid-afternoon to late evening, so arrivals at Heathrow range from early morning to around lunchtime.
If you live in Houston or Austin, those cities have their own nonstop flights to Heathrow, and the rest of this page applies to you as well. Everything after the landing is the same, from passport control to the drive into town.
Finding the Right Flight From Dallas
Because both airlines on the route are partners, fares can look similar, but there are still good deals to be had. January to March and November are usually the cheapest months, and midweek departures tend to be lower than weekends. If you have American AAdvantage miles or BA Avios, both work across the two airlines. Think about the arrival time too. A mid-afternoon departure lands very early in London, with a long wait for your room. A late-evening departure lands closer to lunchtime.
Premium economy is worth pricing on this route. Over nine hours, a wider seat and a better chance of sleep make the first day in London much easier, and the fare difference is sometimes smaller than people expect, especially when booked early.
Entry to the UK: the ETA
US citizens need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation to visit. It costs £20 and you apply through the official UK ETA app or on GOV.UK. Most decisions are made within minutes, but the Home Office recommends applying at least three working days before you travel. The airline checks it before you board. It is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever is sooner, and covers any number of visits of up to six months.
If you are only transiting through Heathrow to another country, and you stay airside without going through UK passport control, you do not currently need one. Anyone leaving the airport does, even for a few hours.
Landing and Meeting Your Driver
At Heathrow, US passport holders can use the eGates at border control. It is usually quicker than the desks, although at busy times there can still be a queue. After that, collect your bags, walk through customs and into the arrivals hall. Your driver will be there holding a board with your name.
We track every flight. If you land early, the driver is already there. If you land late, the driver waits. The meeting time allows for passport control and baggage, and if you are held up longer, for example by a lost bag, just call the number on your confirmation. Once you meet, it is a short walk to the car in the short-stay car park beside the terminal.
Driving Into London
From Heathrow, the car takes the M4 and A4 into west London. Allow 45 to 75 minutes to the West End. Dallas flights often land in the morning rush hour, when the A4 through Chiswick and Hammersmith is at its slowest. On a weekend, or after about 10am, the drive is usually quicker. The fare is fixed when you book, so the traffic does not affect the price.
Taxi Prices From Heathrow
These are the one-way fares our booking system is quoting from Heathrow to central London. Your exact fare depends on the address and the date and time, and the booking form at the top of this page shows it before you pay.
| Vehicle | Takes up to | One-way fare |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon | 4 passengers, 2 large cases | £67 |
| Estate | 4 passengers, 4 large cases | £74 |
| Executive | 3 passengers, 2 large cases | £87 |
| People carrier (MPV) | 6 passengers, 4 large cases | £86 |
| 8 Seater | 8 passengers, 8 large cases | £86 |
| Executive Minivan | 8 passengers, 8 large cases | £114 |
For Kensington, a saloon is about £59, and for Liverpool Street and the City it is about £79. Book the return journey at the same time and the form takes 5% off the return leg.
Business Travellers From Texas
A big share of the Dallas to London traffic is business travel, particularly in energy, finance, law and consulting. Most of it goes to the City, Canary Wharf, Mayfair and St James’s. Our executive cars suit that kind of trip, and we can email a receipt afterwards for your expense claim. If you are flying on to Aberdeen or elsewhere in the UK for work, we can also take you from Heathrow to another airport. A saloon to Gatwick, for example, is about £88.
For teams arriving together, a people carrier or an 8-seater keeps everyone in one vehicle. If colleagues are on different flights, we can book each one separately and send one invoice.
Families and Bigger Groups
A saloon takes four passengers with two large cases. That is often too little room for a family on a long trip, so an estate (four passengers, four cases) or a people carrier (six passengers, four cases) is usually better. Our 8-seater and executive minivan take eight passengers with eight cases. For church groups, school trips and sports teams we run 12-seater and 16-seater minibuses. Child seats are available if you give us the children’s ages when you book, as UK seats differ from the ones used in the US.
Train or Taxi From Heathrow?
If you are on your own with a small bag and staying near Paddington, the train is quicker and cheaper: the Heathrow Express takes about 15 minutes, and the Elizabeth line is a little slower but costs less. The Piccadilly line reaches central London in around 50 minutes. With a family, a group or a lot of luggage, the taxi is often similar in total cost and much easier, with no stairs, no changes and a drop-off at the door.
Outside London
Plenty of Dallas visitors are not staying in central London. Windsor is 20 to 30 minutes from Heathrow, and a saloon is about £45. Oxford is about an hour away, and a saloon is about £97. Golf trips to Surrey and Berkshire, weddings in the Cotswolds and visits to family in the Home Counties are all easier by car straight from the airport. The booking form will give you a fixed fare for any UK address.
If you are planning to rent a car for part of the trip, it is often better to pick it up a day or two later, once you are over the flight. Many rental offices near Heathrow and in west London can be reached easily by taxi from your hotel.
Your First Day
Six hours of time difference is enough to make the first afternoon hard. If you land in the morning, drop your bags at the hotel, get outside in daylight and eat at London times. A walk through St James’s Park or along the South Bank is a good way to keep moving without planning anything. Save the big sights for the next day. Our things to do in London page has some ideas.
- London is cooler than Dallas nearly all year, so bring a jacket in your hand luggage.
- Contactless cards work on buses, the Tube and in most shops.
- Cars drive on the left. Take a taxi from the airport rather than renting a car on day one.
