A taxi from Canary Wharf to Gatwick is the simplest way from the Docklands office towers, hotels and riverside flats to the airport. We collect from any address in E14, including One Canada Square, Crossrail Place, West India Quay and the apartment blocks along the river, and drive you to Gatwick’s North or South Terminal for a fixed fare. A saloon costs £96.86 and the journey takes about 63 minutes when the tunnels are moving.

The Blackwall Tunnel question
Getting from the Isle of Dogs to Gatwick means crossing the river, and that usually means the Blackwall Tunnel or the Rotherhithe Tunnel. Through the Blackwall Tunnel, the driver joins the A2 and the A20 and heads out to the M25, then round to the M23. That is the route our booker plans, around 49 miles. It is fast at quiet times. At the morning and evening peaks the approach to the tunnel can queue badly, and drivers then use the Rotherhithe Tunnel and head south through Lewisham and Croydon.
The Silvertown Tunnel, which opened in 2025 next to the Blackwall, gives drivers a second crossing at that end of the river. Whichever crossing the driver chooses, the fare you were quoted stays the same.
Picking up in Canary Wharf
The estate has its own road system, with private roads, underground taxi ranks and drop-off points beneath many buildings, and security staff who do not let cars wait on the main roads for long. Give us your building name and we arrange to meet at its drop-off area. For the residential towers along Marsh Wall, Westferry Road and the riverside, the concierge desk is usually the best meeting point.
If you are leaving straight from the office, put your mobile number in the booking and keep it with you. The driver will call when they arrive.
Train versus taxi from Canary Wharf
There is no direct train from Canary Wharf to Gatwick. You would take the Jubilee line to London Bridge and change to Thameslink or Southern, or the Elizabeth line to Farringdon and change there for Thameslink. Either way it is about an hour and ten minutes with a change, and the stations are busy at commuting times. A single traveller with a cabin bag may well prefer the train. With colleagues, clients, a big case or a dawn flight, the car is easier, and four people sharing a saloon pay about £24.21 each.
Corporate travel from the towers
Canary Wharf’s banks, law firms and media companies send a lot of people through Gatwick, often on short trips to European offices. The executive car at £122.86 is a common choice for senior staff and clients. If you book on behalf of someone else, put their name and mobile number in the booking so the driver contacts them, and your own email for the confirmation. For several colleagues on the same flight, one MPV or the executive minivan is usually cheaper than separate cars.
Hotels on the Wharf
There are several large hotels on the estate and around West India Quay, plus serviced apartments used by people on long work assignments. We collect from the main entrance or the hotel’s car drop-off. If the hotel has an underground entrance for cars, the driver will use it when allowed.
Weekend trips from Docklands
Not everyone in E14 is travelling for work. Plenty of people who live in the riverside towers fly from Gatwick on Friday evenings for a weekend away. Friday is the busiest day on the roads out of London, so leave earlier than you think, or book a car for Saturday morning when the tunnels are empty. On a Sunday night return, the drive back from Gatwick is usually quick.
Living on the Isle of Dogs?
The southern part of the Isle of Dogs, around Island Gardens, Millwall and Cubitt Town, is a few minutes further from the tunnels than the Wharf itself. The booker adds the extra distance automatically, usually only a pound or two. Give your full postcode for the exact figure.
What the fare includes
The price you see is the price you pay. It already covers the ULEZ and Congestion Charge where the route needs them, the airport’s drop-off or pick-up charge, and fuel. Nothing is added for luggage you told us about when you booked. A child seat is £10 per seat, so add it in the notes box and we bring the right size.
Fares do not go up in heavy traffic or late at night. If the M25 is slow on the day, that is our problem, not yours.
Why mention road charges at all? Because on a meter, or with some app firms, they are added at the end. London’s ULEZ applies every day, and the Congestion Charge applies in central London at set hours. Every UK airport we serve also charges cars to drop off or pick up near the terminal. Rather than leave you guessing, we fold all of it into one number you can see before you book.
Coming back from Gatwick to Canary Wharf
Arriving back after a business trip? Book the inbound journey with your flight number and we take you from the terminal straight to the office or home.
On the way back, give us your flight number and we do the rest. The driver checks the landing time, waits inside arrivals with a name sign, and allows a free hour after the flight lands for passport control and bags. Door-to-door pickups include five minutes of free waiting.
When to leave the office
For a European flight, we suggest leaving about three hours before departure; for long-haul, three and a half. At peak times, especially between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays, the tunnels can add 30 minutes or more, so book an earlier car rather than a later one. If a meeting runs over, call us; we will do what we can.
Room for everyone and the bags
Count the suitcases before you choose. Saloon: four people, two large cases. Estate: four people, four cases. Executive: three people, two cases. MPV: six people, four cases. 8-seater and executive minivan: eight people, eight cases. Golf bags, skis and pushchairs take extra space, so mention them in the notes and we will check the car fits.
For groups larger than eight, book two vehicles in the same booking and ask for them to travel together; the drivers coordinate so the group arrives at the same time. For very bulky items such as bikes in boxes or surfboards, call us first so we can check what fits.
Nearby pickups in Docklands
We also cover Limehouse, Poplar, Blackwall, Greenwich Peninsula, Royal Docks, Wapping and Shadwell. Canary Wharf is also very close to London City Airport; for flights from there, see our Canary Wharf to London City Airport taxi page, or Canary Wharf airport taxi for every London airport from E14.
Expenses and receipts
Need a receipt for expenses? Ask when you book and we can provide one showing the date, route and fare. You pay the fare you were quoted, so the amount matches your approval.
