A taxi from Birmingham New Street to Heathrow Terminal 5 costs £169 in a saloon car, for a journey of about 107 miles that takes just over two hours when the roads are clear. The fare is fixed: it is the same at 3am as at noon, and the same on a Sunday as on a Monday.

Birmingham has its own airport, so most people who book this run are flying long-haul, on an airline or route Birmingham does not offer, or are connecting from a domestic trip. That usually means heavy luggage and an early start, which is where a door-to-door car earns its price.

Fares from Birmingham to Heathrow

Car Passengers Suitcases New Street to Terminal 5 New Street to Terminal 2
Saloon 4 2 £169 £170
Estate 4 4 £182 £184
Executive 3 2 £207 £209
MPV 6 4 £217 £219
8-seater 8 8 £217 £219
Executive minivan 8 8 £266 £268

Fares are one-way, taken from our booking system in October 2026. Collection from Solihull station is cheaper at £155 in a saloon, because it is 101 miles and avoids the drive out of the city centre. For your exact address, enter it in the booking form at the top of this page.

Two ways to bring the cost down:

  • Book the return at the same time. The total for both journeys is reduced by 5%.
  • Share the car. The 8-seater costs the same as the MPV and holds eight people and eight cases. Split eight ways, New Street to Terminal 5 comes to about £27 each.

The journey

From central Birmingham the usual route heads south on the M40 and joins the M25 for the final stretch to Heathrow. In light traffic it takes around 2 hours 5 minutes to Terminal 5. The M25 around Heathrow is the least predictable part of the journey, and the time can stretch considerably at weekday peaks or after an incident.

Working out your pickup time

Many airlines ask long-haul passengers to be at the airport around three hours before departure. Check your own airline’s advice, then work back:

Your flight Arrive at Heathrow by Drive (light traffic) Buffer for the M25 Suggested pickup
09:30 06:30 2 h 05 45 min 03:40
13:00 10:00 2 h 05 1 h 15 (morning traffic) 06:40
21:00 18:00 2 h 05 1 h 15 (evening traffic) 14:40

A 03:40 pickup is no more expensive than a midday one. At your door the driver waits 5 minutes free, so it is worth being ready at the booked time.

Which terminal?

Terminal 5 is at the western edge of the airport and Terminal 2 is in the central area, and the fare differs by a pound or two. Your booking confirmation or airline app will show the terminal. If you are unsure when you book, choose the one your airline normally uses and tell us if it changes. Our Heathrow Terminal 5 guide covers the busiest terminal in more detail.

Your driver will drop you at the terminal drop-off area. Heathrow charges every vehicle £7 for this, and that charge is already included in the fares above. Our Heathrow drop-off charge guide explains how it works.

Taxi or train?

There is no direct train from Birmingham to Heathrow. The rail journey runs from New Street into London Euston and then across London to the airport, which means at least one change with luggage. For a solo traveller with a small bag the train can be cheaper. For two or more people with long-haul luggage, or anyone travelling before the first trains, a car to the terminal door is usually the more practical choice.

Coming home

Landing at Heathrow and heading back to the West Midlands is the same distance and a similar fare. Book it as a return with your outbound trip to get the 5% reduction. Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall. We track your flight, and the first 60 minutes after it lands are free.
